Seriously?! It has been a busy month at Nose Creek and in Grade 5. I have loved getting to know the students more and more every day. Their personalities are starting to shine through, and we are getting back into the swing of learning. Students have been fully immersed in French for the last month and are doing really well. We are building our math understanding, and are setting the foundation for all things math in Grade 5!
Please make sure your son/daughter is reading 30 minutes/night. They are also encouraged to go on Prodigy for math if they would like extra practice. A HUGE SHOUTOUT to all of the Kodiak families who helped support our 2018 Run for the Cure. We had a successful year, raising almost 15000 for breast cancer research!! It was great seeing all the students and parents/guardians who braved the cold this morning to participate in the run. We had great 5A representation!

This is a message from your Parent Fundraising Committee F.A.N.S.” Monster Truck Pictures! Please be informed of some lunch hour changes:
- Grade 5 students will eat in the small gym from 12:00-12:20 - From 12:20-12:40 all Grade 5 students must go outside (unless they choose to go to the LC on Grade 5 days) - Grade 5 park days are: Mondays and Wednesdays - Grade 5 Learning Common days are: Tuesdays and Thursdays - Run for the Cure Meetings are Wednesday at lunch - A reminder, all students must sign-in in the lunchroom My name is Kate Malayko and I am so excited to welcome students into 5A! I have been teaching PE for the past two years, and before that taught Grade 5 for two years. I am excited to be back in a classroom and eager to create a tight-knit community of learners within our classroom. I believe that students need to feel safe and comfortable in a classroom in order to take risks to explore and learn. After some conversation with the students today, we determined that demonstrating respect towards one and other is our main rule this year! Students in 5A will start with Intensive French and Math in term 1, along with daily PE and an alternating option class. In term two we will compete our core classes, and continue with Math and French. This year, we have changed our timetable slightly to a "tumbling" format which allows students to experience learning at different times throughout the day. Students will be introduced to this schedule in the first week of school, and we will talk about it a bit more at Meet The Teacher Night on September 21. Below is a model of what the schedule looks like. A couple other noteworthy changes from Grade 4 to 5: - Students must change for PE. A gym strip order form was included in the package sent home today. Students do not have to order a new gym strip - they can bring athletic shorts and shirts from home. The PE teach is encouraging students not purchasing a Kodiak gym strip to wear a red or black tshirt. - Students will be going out for lunch recess FIRST (from 12:05-12:25) and then coming in to eat lunch in the small gym (from 12:25-12:45). Students tested this new format out today and provided me with some great feedback. So far it seems to be going well. I am committed to ensuring effective communication with parents and guardians. As is the expectation for all teachers in the school, I will update the blog at least once a week and will keep a running tally of important dates listed on the right of this page. Students will be writing in their agenda daily and should be bringing it home. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at any point throughout the school year ([email protected]). |
