Students have generated some create writing about their athlete and have posted it onto their website. They are now taking that writing, and putting it into an interview form. They will record an "interview" with a friend and upload that to their site too! Here are some sample questions to help guide student writing.

We have moved onto the sports unit. For the most part, the vocabulary needed for this unit is relatively familiar to students from our morning circle routines. With that, they are going to create websites about an athlete of their choice. Students will complete the preliminary research in English, and while further developing their vocabulary in French, they will begin and edit their website writing. Students are very excited to start this project!
Students have spent the past couple weeks working on a French news cast using iMovie. They have created some great news broadcasts and we will be watching them next week.
This week, we have a special guest coming from downtown to work with us on our French. She is the intensive French specialist, and wants to practice some of her techniques with the kids...some of the students may already know her from their French interview. It should be a great time! Here is the sample writing if you would like to finish it at home.
Students transitioned into their CORE term this week. They will still be having about 1.5 hours of IF/week. Due to the fact that 5A students are in our classroom for all subjects we have the flexibility to have one day of IF in a more intensive fashion. We will typically aim to have IF on Wednesdays for 2.5 periods. This allows us to have sustained conversations, and complete a reading or writing activity.
This week: we continued learning about different clothing articles, and talked about what we would want to pack on a vacation. We will be doing a writing activity about packing our suitcases for a special holiday and making justifications as to the clothing we are packing. Quelle est la date aujourd'hui? TUESDAY - WEDNESDAY - Click here for the blank pizza box. Type your writing into it. Save it to your google drive once you are done. THURSDAY - FRIDAY - MONDAY - No school today!
TUESDAY - During our morning circle we introduced ourselves to our new student teacher from MRU who will be joining us for the next couple weeks. After that, we spent a significant amount of time talking about the Canadian Food Guide - this is considered a non-fictional text for students to explore. We brainstormed some items that belong to each category and then students completed an pre-writing activity by completing a food arch. WEDNESDAY - Today we built on our food guide work from yesterday and wrote a sample written piece together, reviewed it, then wrote our own! THURSDAY - Today we read a book called "Je fais de petits pas" which was all about a student not making the right food choices - candy vs veggies. This book aligned well with our work with the food guide. Students continued to develop vocabulary around food choice and are able to speak to whether or not foods are good for their health. FRIDAY - We placed a strong focus on Math this Friday, but did continue with our morning circle routine. MONDAY - We started the day with morning circle. This is our daily routine and we spend almost one period talking in French and asking each other questions. Students are learning to be spontaneous in their responses. Some have even asked follow-up questions (in FRENCH!!) to their peers about the answers they provide. For example, if I student talks about their weekend and mentions they saw a movie, a follow-up question may be something like, who did you go to the movie with? Or what movie did you see? We spent a lot of today talking about and writing about our winter break.
TUESDAY - Although we talked a bit about this before winter break, I felt as though it needed to be reviewed. We spent a lot of today working on utilizing words like "tous les jours, souvent, rarement, jamais" to describe how often we eat certain foods. Some students even went as far as being able to say "I never eat fish because I hate it". WEDNESDAY - We continued with the theme of eating frequency today and completed a hands on writing task to support our newly acquired vocabulary. THURSDAY - We spent most of today talking about and exploring the importance and difference between I eat, I will eat and I did eat. For students, being able to hear the difference of required verb tense in a question, and then responding with the correct verb tense is very important. FRIDAY - Again, we had a morning circle discussion and focused on asking others what they were going to do over the weekend. We added some sentence strips to our food wall so that we could use them as a reference (or vertical dictionary) when writing other texts. Monday - today we were introduced to different french words. We have begun to talk about if we eat them often or rarely, and will continue this work throughout the unit.
Tuesday - we worked on identifying what we ate for breakfast and what we were going to eat for lunch. This helped us practice past and future verb tenses. We also read a book about "Une pizza parfaite". We also talked about if we like, love, don't like or detest certain foods. Wednesday - we practiced our French Cafe today and wrote our cue cards. Thursday - Here is a link to hear what the French cafe menu card should sound like. If students want to practice at home before tomorrow: https://flipgrid.com/5a018159 Here is the script to help guide the practicing: Nous avons cuisiner les petits gâteaux. Friday - FRENCH CAFE with 5B and 5C! |
