Thank you to all families who were able to attend parent/teacher conferences this past week. If you were unable to attend, please don't hesitate to email me ([email protected]) about booking another time.
This week we will be starting our Grade 5 Read Around. This allows teachers to change classrooms, read a common novel (Fish in a Tree) and get to know the students in the Grade a little bit better. It also exposes students to the other teachers and build relationships with them as well. During the Read Around, students will be introduced to the SUPER 6 reading comprehension strategies. To read more about them, click here. These skills will be extremely beneficial as we transition into term 2. Here are some updates and reminders about the week ahead:
MONDAY - We are visiting the book fair during FLEX. Students are allowed to make purchases at this time if your family agrees on it. The book far is open all week and during parent teachers interviews on Thursday and Friday. TUESDAY - Regular day at school WEDNESDAY - We will participate in our Mobile Escape Acclimation today. Students will get to try out some escape rooms right at school, solve different puzzles and start to think about how we would like to design our own Escape Room in early December. THURSDAY - No School - parent teacher conferences FRIDAY - No School - parent teacher conferences “Dear Parents,
The next Healthy Hunger fundraiser is Nov. 28th Subway. The deadline to order is Friday Nov. 23. The new and exciting option is a Nutrition Break snack from Cobs!! The first theme is “Scones”. Go online and select the tasty scone of your choice. Your child will be able to pick up their scone from their homeroom teacher during nutrition break Dec. 12th. We hope you enjoy the new snack option. Stay tuned for other themes from our local Cobs Bakery. Thank you for participating in the F.A.N.S. (Fundraising Association for Nose Creek School) fundraising events! F.A.N.S.” On Monday November 12th, PowerSchool is going live.
Please click here to see the letter sent out to parents/guardians from administration. To add: - please note that we are working through a gradual transition in PowerSchool and that initially, not all marks will be live - student marks on the report card are summative of their progress throughout the year - formative marks inform teachers' knowledge of where students are at, and influence but don't dictate the final mark on the report card - you can expect marks to be updated on a semi-regular basis. The grade 5 team is working together to ensure the most consistency as possible, while still allowing for teaching autonomy If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me ([email protected]) This year for the yearbook, we would like to switch things up and run a yearbook cover contest with the students. The theme of our book is “Kodiak Spirit”.
We are looking for student volunteers to help design a yearbook cover. The top entry will be featured on the front cover of the yearbook and 12 runners up on the back. Second place will be the inside cover page in the book. Things to consider when designing the cover:
Deadline for the entries will be Wednesday November 21, 2018 by the end of the day. All entries can be submitted to either Mrs. Goddard or Ms. Tudin Please share with your students that this could be an opportunity to leave a lasting impression from their time here at Nose Creek. Ski forms went home today. Click here for the PDF version of the form if students forgot to bring it home. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
