MONDAY - We started the day with morning circle. This is our daily routine and we spend almost one period talking in French and asking each other questions. Students are learning to be spontaneous in their responses. Some have even asked follow-up questions (in FRENCH!!) to their peers about the answers they provide. For example, if I student talks about their weekend and mentions they saw a movie, a follow-up question may be something like, who did you go to the movie with? Or what movie did you see? We spent a lot of today talking about and writing about our winter break.
TUESDAY - Although we talked a bit about this before winter break, I felt as though it needed to be reviewed. We spent a lot of today working on utilizing words like "tous les jours, souvent, rarement, jamais" to describe how often we eat certain foods. Some students even went as far as being able to say "I never eat fish because I hate it". WEDNESDAY - We continued with the theme of eating frequency today and completed a hands on writing task to support our newly acquired vocabulary. THURSDAY - We spent most of today talking about and exploring the importance and difference between I eat, I will eat and I did eat. For students, being able to hear the difference of required verb tense in a question, and then responding with the correct verb tense is very important. FRIDAY - Again, we had a morning circle discussion and focused on asking others what they were going to do over the weekend. We added some sentence strips to our food wall so that we could use them as a reference (or vertical dictionary) when writing other texts.
