For more traditional homework click here. All students received a math game on Monday that they should be playing at home to practice multiplication.
Monday - Today students completed some work with patterns, and completed the math word problems them created with a partner last week. Tuesday - Today we introduced and worked on very simple algebraic equations using multiplication. Wednesday - Students wrote a practice Math quiz today. We corrected it in class, and will use it to guide our practice tomorrow. Some students chose to take it home today, while others will for sure bring it home tomorrow. If you would like to print another copy of it at home, click here. Students know the quiz Monday will follow a similar structure to today's practice quiz. Thursday - we did some intensive and targeted math practice today. Students identified areas of weakness and worked on them. Click here for another practice test you can do at home. Friday - ***PLEASE NOTE: Final multiplication quiz will be on Monday December 3rd.

Monday - Today we continued to review and explore 2digit by 2 digit multiplication. A lot of parents/guardians wanted some insight into how we are doing multiplication. See below: This method helps students see multiplication through the lens of place value. When an equation is stacked (likely how we all learned in school) they don't always know that they are doing, for example, 4 x 30, they just think it is 4 x 3, because they know the procedural routine of how to complete the standard multiplication algorithm. Tuesday - Today students created some multiplication word problems in small groups. We created a couple together as a class, and then they got to work. It was great to see students putting their knowledge into word problems and reaffirm their learning.
Wednesday - This afternoon, students worked in small groups to answer the word problems create by their peers! Thursday - no school Friday - no school MONDAY - Students will complete a "do I?" in Math to check in on their understanding and answer the question "Do I understand..." based on some of the key concepts we have covered in Math. This self reflection will help guide their learning and revision of concepts and keep students accountable for their learning. Once the checklist has been complete, students will work through a variety of stations to help solidify the learning some more.
Can I? Practice Questions: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1TWqFRA4zzRRPb3xY5udTVic3MG4XC4A4_SteoGKkK80/edit?usp=sharing TUESDAY - Students continued working on their practice questions today before the mini-check in tomorrow. WEDNESDAY - Students completed the mini check-in today. They should be very proud of the growth they have demonstrated since the beginning of the unit. Please note that students have brought these home, and they should be signed by a parent/guardian. THURSDAY - Today we did some multi-step word problems on vertical surfaces. Students worked in small groups they evaluate the questions, determine what the question was asking and solve the equation. FRIDAY - Today we were able to cash in our cheques from the rug project. Several students played Prodigy, while others continued working on their math board games they started the other day in FLEX. My apologies for the delayed update.
MONDAY - Today we continued our learning of 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. TUESDAY - We practiced some word problems with 2digit by 2 digit multiplication. WEDNESDAY - Today our Math coach introduce patterns to us. It was great for the students to be introduced to Mr. Rattee, who introduced this concept to us through JUGGLING!!! Students were engaged and came to realize patterns aren't just seen in numbers, but in every day things in life! THURSDAY - We had our final animation studio in the morning and a design challenge in the afternoon, so we didn't get to Math today. FRIDAY - Due to our Remembrance Day ceremony, students didn't have Math today. They should be ready for a week full of math next week! |
